The numbers on this page come from the inputs you enter and the method stated: 3,600 seconds to an hour, 52 weeks to a year, twelve months to a year, and nothing else. No industry shrinkage figure, no occupancy benchmark and no assumption about your attrition; every one of those is yours to enter.
Client onboarding automation is usually sold on minutes saved, and minutes are the wrong unit. A firm that saves forty minutes of internal work per client and still takes three weeks to start has automated the wrong half. This page separates the steps that return calendar days from the ones that return only minutes, because they need different justifications and only one of them is visible to the client.

Calendar days versus minutes
Calendar days come from removing waiting: a request that goes out on day zero instead of day four, a reminder that fires without anyone remembering, a setup that happens in parallel with the client's homework rather than after it. Minutes come from removing typing. Both are worth having, but only the first changes what the client experiences, and only the first is worth paying a subscription for.
The parallel trick
The largest single calendar saving in most firms is not automation at all, it is doing your internal setup while waiting for the client's documents instead of afterwards. It costs nothing and it removes the client's response time from every subsequent step. Automating a serial process makes it a faster serial process; running it in parallel changes the shape.
What to measure
Days from signature to first delivered work, per client, and the spread rather than the average. A consistent three weeks is a better business than an average of two with a tail of six, because the tail is where the complaints and the refund requests live. Measure it for a quarter before and after any change.
The honest limit
Some of your onboarding is waiting for another human being who does not work for you, and no software changes that. What software can do is make the wait visible, make the reminder reliable and make sure nothing on your side is also outstanding when the document finally arrives.

Client onboarding automation: common questions
What returns the most calendar time? Sending the document request immediately and running your internal setup in parallel with it. Both are process changes rather than purchases.
Is automation worth it for a small firm? The reminder half usually is, because it replaces remembering. The rule-engine half rarely is until you are running several onboardings at once.
How do we justify it? In days, not minutes, and against the spread rather than the average. That is the number a client feels.
